How Many Do You Know About Molybdenum Trioxde(MoO3)?





Molybdenum trioxide is chemical compound with the formula MoO3. This compound is produced on the largest scale of any molybdenum compound. It occurs as the rare mineral molybdite. Its chief application is as an oxidation catalyst and as a raw material for the production of molybdenum metal. The oxidation state of molybdenum in this compound is +6.

Molybdenum trioxide can been used in the following:

Molybdenum trioxide is used to manufacture molybdenum metal, which serves as an additive to steel and corrosion-resistant alloys. The relevant conversion entails treatment of MoO3 with hydrogen at elevated temperatures:


MoO3 + 3 H2 Mo + 3 H2O


It is also a component of the co-catalyst used in the industrial production of acrylonitrile by the oxidation of propene andammonia.


Because of its layered structure and the ease of the Mo(VI)/Mo(V) coupling, MoO3 is of interest in electrochemical devices and displays. Molybdenum trioxide has also been suggested as a potential anti-microbial agent, e.g., in polymers. In contact with water, it forms H+ ions that can kill bacteria effectively. However, the issue of keeping the catalyst clean in an environment that would exploit such antimicrobial properties has not been explored.

Heating Element - SiC&MoSi2




As we have referred in the last Bolger, the SiC and MoSi2 heating element has many types which are according to its shape and application. Now, we continue to introduce the other four types in the following: 


Type HY-G

This type of element is manufactured with a spiral-grooved heating section which is made of homogeneous, high-density silicon carbide crystals. It is more resistant to heat and corrosion than conventional products. It is also able to withstand operations in rigorous conditions.


HY-G elements can operate with a surface temperature of 1700°C in air atmosphere, and up to 1800°C if in inert gas atmosphere (Ar, Ar + Co). Therefore, they are widely used in high temperature furnaces.


The interior of elements with large diameters can be used as a tube furnace. Just as in HY-H elements, HY-G elements are provided with an energy-saving, low-resistance, cold-end terminal.

Type HY-GR

Similarly to type HY-G, HY-GR element is a tubular element with a spiral-grooved heating section, and as a major characteristic, both electrical connections are found at one end only. This type of element is energy-conserving, convenient and easy to install due to the same-end terminal structure.

A special version of this model incorporates a low-resistance cold zone to promote further reduction of expenses.

HY-G and HY-GR elements are recommended for use in rigorous operating conditions or in hot environments where in-furnace temperatures exceed 1400°C.

Type HY-W

The 3 phrase elements are self-bonded silicon carbide formed by re-crystallization of silicon carbide at high temperatures. It consists of three high-purity silicon carbide elements connected at one end by a silicon carbide crossbar. The joints are formed from silicon carbide fully bond the components into a structurally homogeneous body. The elements can be connected directly on three-phase power supply and is a one-side terminal type which permits drawing out the terminals from the roof of the furnace. All elements can be delivered with a wide range of accessories for a trouble-free and energy-saving operation.

Type HY-U
       

This consists of two Silicon Carbide legs with equal diameter. Each leg is divided into two parts, hot zone and cold zone with a joint. Resistance of both legs are equal to ensure a uniform performance. Both shanks are joined with a crossbar made of low resistance.

SiC Heating Element

 

There are many shapes in SiC heating elements. The following is two kinds for your reference:Ther Type HY-L and HY-H 


These types of heating elements are used in applications ranging in temperature from 600°C up to 1600°C in both air and controlled atmosphere. The type of atmosphere used will determine the maximum recommended element temperature. Silicon carbide elements may be mounted either vertically or horizontally, and as the material remains rigid, even at the maximum operating temperatures, no special supports are required.
 

HY-H Type SiC Rod


Type HY-DB
 

This type of heating element consists of a hot zone with high electrical resistivity and rigidly connected with two thickened cold zones of low resistance owing to their larger diameter and special manufacturing technique. The particular connecting technique ensures perfect mechanical and electrical operation. Hot zones and cold zones are made of exceptionally homogeneous, self-bonded silicon carbide. The heating elements are self-supporting and can be installed vertically or horizontally.
